Swordfish Computing provides software development and consulting services to the Australian Defence research community

The company works closely with the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) and specialises in the develpment of advanced technical software applications in close collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams of DSTO research personnel.

Specialist areas of expertise include:

C++, C#/.NET and Java application development

Web Services:
- Extensible Markup Language (XML)
- Web Service Description Language (WSDL)
- The XML based Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)
- Development of high performance small footprint web service client/server systems using the gSOAP C++ toolkit

Simulation systems and technologies:
- Development of highly customised synthetic simulation systems utilising Engenuity Technologies STAGE Scenario
- Modelling and simulation systems integration with the High Level Architecture (HLA)
- The Real-time Platform Reference Federation Object Model (RPR-FOM).
- Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS)

Mapping and Battlespace Visualisation applications and toolkits:
- Development of 3D battlespace visualisation application using the Boeing BattleScape Developer Option (BDO) C++ toolkit (previously Autometric EDO)
- Development of plug-in layers for the Portable Flight Planning (PFPS) FalconView system
- The OpenMap toolkit (Java)

Founded in 1999 by Roger Flint, the company currently employs 10 software engineers engaged on a range of projects with the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) at the Electronic and Surveillance Research Laboratory (ESRL), Edinburgh, SA.
